10. No Transcoded or Re-Encoded DVDs are allowed.
We do not allow any DVDs to be seeded that have been recompressed in any way. This includes any DVD9>DVD5 or PAL>NTSC or NTSC>PAL, MPEG-2 > remaster > MPEG-2. Please seed the DVDs in the original released form.

Re: md5 question

It looks like Drewa311 is just splitting a DVD9 into 2 DVD5. This can be done without re-encoding and without quality loss. Is re-authoring DVDs permitted? (I couldn't find any mention of it in the Video Seeding Rules)

Re: md5 question

If the person who taped & transfered this wanted it split on 2 single layers, they would have authored it that way.

Re: md5 question

actually the 2 tapers both have split versions because DVD9s suck

taperguy27 (thank you) captured masters and authored the dvds for us, in his choice of format, dvd9s are a pain and we have all had troubles with our DL versions but none with our split. I appreciate your help, i would have been pissed had i made a setlist and a text file. I just wanted to share to the maximum amount of people, in the most stable form.

Re: md5 question

Just curious Drew, but why don't you like DVD9s? Is it that you don't have a burner yet for one or that you would just rather have two single discs of the show? I've only downloaded probably less than ten DVD9s, but I haven't had any problems yet (except for the first one and I think it was a Toast issue that I got around by making an iso first) and I prefer them since I don't have to worry about keeping the two discs together and I don't have to switch discs in the middle of the show.

Re: md5 question

if the person who originally authored it doesn't mind, why wouldn't we allow a split? especially if its just re-authored and not re-encoded

people re-author SA DVDs and seed em here all the time [most likely re-encoded as well]...
also, we allow remasters which i'm sure the taper wasn't asked, and we allow DVDs where the authorer uses an audio source without asking the taper, so why wouldn't we allow a DVD9 split to 2 DVD5s?

Re: md5 question

Drewa311 You are as big a dumbass, as I was last year. All new DVD players play DVD9's. I bought a Sony $120.00 upconverting DVD with optical out at Target. Buy a new DVD player. If you don't have an upconverting DVD player you will need one in the near future. DVD5's look like shit on a HDTV, if you don't have a upconverting DVDplayer. All of your store bought DVD's don't even look good without in upconverter on an HDTV.

I assume you don't have an HD TV, but you will in the next year and a half or you are going to buy a converter to play HD on an SD TV. There will be no SD broadcasts.

OK, and the last topic is, I searched your name on here. It looks like you have seeded one show. I assume you are not submitting any of your own video. I searched and I saw one sublime video, that was somebody elses video and that is it.

It is about 40% less work to make one DVD as opposed to two. Not to mention you don't have to change DVD's in the middle of a show. It is nice of you to want every one to work harder for you.

Get a new DVD Player and stop bitching.

Re: md5 question

QUESS WHAT? DVD9s SUCK AND SO DO YOU

i will NEVER support dvd9

reasons 1. the price
2. Friends who i let barrow dvds
3. instable burn process
4. instable read process
5. TYs -rs are $.40
6. I can split dvd9>dvd5 with no loss of quality
7. the technology hasnt moved on, 2 years ago i was like, "this will be cool when they are as cheap as dvds, i don't think they have gotten cheaper at all.

.80 for 2 dvds and 20 min to spilt and having to switch the disc is worth me keeping more than $1 per burn.Like i said, my DL copies are tweaky, why in the world would i want to post them here in DL, MAYBE if i have access to the encoded masters from taperguy27, but i bet they are long gone.

and i have filmed a few shows that have ended up on here 2 buckethead shows and one tea leaf green. Im not a quality snob like tons of people here, im glad to have media at all. Then again I trade in way different ways than many people here. Can you imagine house head who have NO CLUE WHAT .FLAC is and are just super super hyped to find out that i have a .mp3 version of one of their favorite old school mixtape. Im perfectly content with my set-up, and i think its whack that people now wont be able to see this gem.

WHAT HE SAID

no loss of quality, so why does it matter to TTDers?

Exactly. This site is geared towards hard core videofiles, NOT towards leeches. It sounds like all you're concerned with is how many people download it?
There are plenty of sites who don't care what you do with a disc before you seed it. We do.

Seed the DVD9, then let the leeches do whatever they want with the disc, shrink it, split, re-encode, whatever (like you do on each one you download).

You spent $20-30 for the ticket, $6-9 for miniDV tapes to record it but $2 for a dual blank is TOO much money?

That's your issue, not the rest of ours. Like Lynne said, she doesn't have problems burning/playing them, nor do I or most of the others who download them.

Oh no doubt, and i love the quality that comes out of the site.

its just that my trading/collecting music goes far far beyond the limitations set here
I LOVE HOUSE MUSIC
and if i collected only lossless house sets id have like 4 shows

to me its not quality its quantity

Let me give you an example

Farley Jackmaster Funk is one of my favorite artists, i took all 40 of his .RM streams and ripped them to .mp3

lineage goes something like this

Chicago radio circa '82-'90>random Cassette tape>computer(after 20 years of use)>website .RM>My computer>.mp3

hows that for lossless, im just happy to have they media at all
sure it would be dope if it were lossless, but i take what i can get.

the same goes with all the hip-hop I trade

I wish house/hip-hop heads were as smart and willing to produce quality as most people on here, but they simply are a different breed.

just wait is 20 years when some guy finds a long lost uncirculated GD VHS all the people so happy they even have an addition to their collection, quality aside
