Upgraded to Verizon FiOS...

...and now I'm FIREWALLED. I've been thru the steps outlined in portforward.com, but to no avail. Using an Actiontec Broadband Router (MI424WR) and ABC BT client.

Re: Upgraded to Verizon FiOS...

I broke dow and paid Com fucking Cast an xtra 10 bucks a month for higher speeds.

At least I am no longer capped at 45kbs.

It looks like I am now capped at 90-100

Re: Upgraded to Verizon FiOS...

You might want to check your ports. Some ISPs are capping UL/DL on ports 6881-6889, common bt ports. change your ports to something between 50000 and 55000 and you should be fine.

Re: Upgraded to Verizon FiOS...

All right...I finally revisited my FiOS firewall issue. No more red port numbers after my name! And let me just say it was well worth the effort. I just d/l'd a 650MB show in under 10 minutes. That's right, the speed was 1.2 MB/s.

The highest I've seen was 220 kB/s on a single torrent. I couldn't believe that d/l speed. Sat here watching it cruise past 400, 600...I just laughed when I saw the 1.2 MB. Had to come in here and post it

Wow, that's real sweet. Now I've got torrent speed envy.

More money will buy you anything in the world of internet speed.

My heavily firewalled T line network with uTorrent's encryption has been working great though. For torrents, either uploading or downloading have seen max speeds of about 800 kb/s.

You guys have it good. My speeds are 43 kbps down and around 19 up =(

It's hard keeping a good ratio on 3 sites + making sure I have spare upload bandwidth for this p2p I'm using

Most people have that sort of down/up ratio. I can get 300 down, and only 50 up. I just make sure I set Azureus to upload every night - only upload!

Except I'm paying less per month for the Verizon FO than I was paying for my cable connection. Combined internet/phone/tv went from $200+ per month to less than $100.

Well then I guess it worked it for you. What I really had in mind was "sb76854" since I know Cablevision at home offers the same deal where if you pay them more a month, they will supply more bandwith. They offer this right after they throttle people for uploading mere photos...forget even about BT. I'm not complaining, just stating some facts...

I think FiOS is a good thing, but I heard they cut the copper wire to your house, right? I wonder if they too will start to throttle speeds when more and more people switch, just like what happened to cable internet.

Fios is hot - in PA currently 20Mbps/3Mbps = $45month.

they say the goal is full 100Mbps for customers

Quote:
At 50 Mbps, a user could download a 5-megabyte mp3 in approximately 1 second or a 5-gigabyte high-definition movie in around 15 minutes. This naturally depends on both sides of the connection.
