Re: FM compression or .mp3 ?

Hi guys.

I think what he has here is FM broadcast, with the tape possibly running slow during playback. FM stereo pilot is 19kHz and this is lower, so I'm thinking the playback is slowed, resulting in a lower freq?

The odd thing is, FM's high range is 15kHz (unless it's IBOC digital "HD Radio" which is 20-20k) and this cuts off mostly at 15kHz... so the slower tape thing doesn't make any sense there.

Well that looks exactly the same as the other sample but, in Audacity at least, it looks nothing like the original screenshots, though there is a barely perceptible spike at 17KHz. The differences between the way analyses appear in the different programs really does seem terribly confusing.

You sure you didn't mess something up when initially posting pics? The clips you made available are definitely from a completely different source than the pics in your original post.

Re: FM compression or .mp3 ?

Nope, I'm positive...it's all from the same thing. I took the two spectral views with Adobe Audition. The first shots at the beginning of this thread are from MFN, and the samples are the samples as marked.
