Setting Up A Printer Network Between Win XP and OSX?

Is this even a possible?

I have a PC with Windows XP SP2 and an iBook with OSX. Im using a Belkin F5D5231-4 4 port router.

Im trying to share my HP Photosmart printer so the iBook can print to it too (currently the PC has a direct connection to it via USB)

It must be possible cuz we have several PCs and a couple of Macs all hooked up to the HP printer here. But, damned if I remember how we did it. I do remember it was no problem hooking the macs up to it, it was getting the PCs to see it that was the problem.

Then I'm pretty sure there is some kind of converter. I seem to remember we have one of these at the office. But, alas, I'm not there now.

Re: Setting Up A Printer Network Between Win XP and OSX?

Getting a dedicated print server seems like overkill for a home network with just two or three machines.

My understanding is that one of the major selling points of Mac OS X is how well it integrates with Windows networks using SAMBA.

You should be able to share your printer on the Windows machine like you would for any other Windows network. Right click on it and click share. If you don't have that option, then go into network setup and make sure you have Windows File and Print Sharing installed.

Then on the Mac it should outsense the Windows network and see the shared printer.

This link has some tips on sharing and how to see shares from both networks:
