Whenever I Restart My PC, Check Disk Runs For A Certain Drive?

I just formatted my PC, XP Pro SP2.

I have 4 drives, 2 connected to a Raid Controller.

My OS sits on its own drive.

So, whenever I restart I get that lovely blue screen saying it wants to check a drive, a drive that has nothing to do with my OS or the Programs on my machine?

Any ideas?

Fuck it...you just formatted...if it were me, I'd format them all again and start from scratch.

The dirty bit for that drive for some reason is not being reset, usually a file is still open when the system shuts down. A FAT32 formatted drive has done this to me before I just reformatted NTFS to stop it. Some program might be accessing the drive, like anti-virus or even a virus. check here for other reasons, http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1046108376

That, my friend, coupled with what you were originally asking about, leads me to believe that your drive has officially shit the bed.

Re: Whenever I Restart My PC, Check Disk Runs For A Certain Drive?

What's happening is the reader is actually hitting the disc platter.

Think of it like a turntable with a vinyl record...

The reader is the needle and it sits on an arm that is springloaded to stay OFF the platter by some distance. When that spring wears out over time, the readers will drop onto the platter. Then when the platter is spinning, the reader basically bounces off and on the platter repeatedly. That's the clicking sound you're hearing.
