If you mean DVD, then Mac The Ripper for er...ripping, Roxio Popcorn or DVD2OneX for compression and I don't understand what you want to expand.

something like this but for osx...

DVD decrypter - This software is freely available and is able to remove the DeCSS protection, it allows you to select which parts of the movie to rip and is even able to burn the files to a DVD recordable. – Freeware

I thought this was your friends bands DVD. Why would he have protection on it?

I would go post in the forums at videohelp.com for that sort of stuff. None of the DVDs we have here have any sort of protection on them. We also make sure that they fit on a disc or we separate them to two or three discs before they are seeded.

Yes, videohelp.com is the place to look if you want help removing protections. This practice is not condoned by TTD as it is generally used for piracy and not unofficial trading.

Try iSkysoft DVD Ripper for Mac. It's a great one-click solution.
It can rip DVD video to video formats including MP4, AVI, MOV, M4V, 3GP, MPG, MPEG, FLV; and it can convert DVD audio to MP3, M4A, AAC, AC3, etc. Best resolution to rip a dvd to video or audio format.
It is $39.
The trial version should be fully functional for what you want to do.
