Re: couldnt listen - unable to forward port via UPnP

uPnP - is a service that attempts to auto-config.
In this situation, the torrent client is attempting to use uPnP to open a port on your router.

(Its kinda like plug&play for networks & doesnt really work/has issues.)

what torrent client are you using? What OS and router?

in a nutshell:
you need to manually give your torrent client a port number (to chat on)
then, via a browser, 'open/forward' that port number in the router.

you're going to make me work.. thats ok.

BitTorrent operates best when it has a TCP server port open, and defaults to open it at 6881 or higher (you can change this in Prefs).
http://www.bittornado.com/faq.html

top file menu> select prefs
note the port number

so.. if it is using port 6881 ... then
go into your router
(using the www.portforward.com as your guide - every router is a little different in verbage used)
once inside your router, you open/forward port to your workstation

(yes you need to know what IP address your computer has - it may be something like 192.168.1.100 or 192.168.0.100 ..etc)

take it slow - smoke if you got 'em - it will all work out.

nice - we speak the same language then.

it seems like a lot at first - its not.

1. get the port # from Bit tornado (might be 6881) - write it down.
2. get your IP Address from your computer
If you are on a windows system:
start>run>(type) cmd (hit enter) - this gets you a DOS Prompt
Type: ipconfig /all (hit enter) - lots of junk shows on the screen
Look for the line that says: ipaddress - write the number down.

3.Find your British Telecom router by model number at www.portforward.com
follow directions to enter the bit tornado PORT and your computers IP Address.

done.
I will collect on that beer so thanks in advance.
