Re: Trader's Little Helper

Hi guys, quick question about something I've seen on TLH.

I've just converted a 16bit WAV file to a level 6 FLAC.

The following message has appeared in the process log...:

02 Creepin Up On You.wav: successfully encoded to '02 Creepin Up On You.flac' (Ratio = 0.523; foreign metadata 'BEXT' , 'LGWV' removed)

No errors occured.

The part I'm unsure about is the ratio and the BEXT and LGWV metadata being removed.

I looked up the two terms and got a link to a wikipedia page about Broadcast Wav and how BEXT is something that allows it communicate and work with different computer platforms.

I edited the audio in Logic Pro 8 on MAC and transferred it by USB to my XP PC then put this into Traders Little Helper after all sorts of issues about the File not being found. I think I've sorted the File Not found stuff but just seen the message above.

Hopefully I've given you all the info and so any help / tips / suggestions would be greatly received and appreciated.

Thanks
Rob

Re: Trader's Little Helper

Hi Rob,

I'm not an expert at all, but maybe I'll be able to help. At least, I can try.

Your WAV file contains, next to the audio portion, some additional information used by certain software, which is called metadata.

When you encode your wav file to flac, you have an option to remove this metadata. I guess that's because it'll allow the flac file to become a bit smaller.

AFAIK, TLH's default setting is that it removes this metadata. If you want to preserve it, so the metadata information gets taken into the flac file, check the option 'Keep foreign metadata' in the 'Encode wav files' window in TLH.

Hope that helps,
Eric

Re: Trader's Little Helper

Hi Eric, thanks for the quick reply!

Ah I see, yes that was an option I saw on TLH. Would you recommend keeping the metadata?

Also, do you or anyone else know anything about the way the directories within Traders Little Helper work? They are giving me no end of problems.

Every file I've tried to convert, it says "File cannot be found in directory". The only time it did work was when i moved a single file straight to the top of my C: drive and it converted it there. I've tried changing the directory in the Preferences > General > Directories sub section and it still won't work. I've never had any problems with TLH until the last few days!

Thanks
Rob

Depends, I guess. If you'd plan on using the (extracted) files in certain software again, it might be useful.

Strange.
In the 'Encode wav files' screen, do you have a directory selected under 'Encode to this directory'?
Have you tried the 'Save encoded files to source directory' as well?

Hello, I have tried both of the things you have suggested. It's so weird! It gets to 99%, says No errors occured. It hasn't created the file. If I then tick the Test Encoded files box, it comes up with the Cannot be found in Directory message.

I'm using Version 2.7.0 Build 172

Re: Trader's Little Helper

So... I have some FLAC files that are 24bit lossless.

TLH will not convert them to MP3. I can convert the encoding format or decode them to WAV first, it doesn't matter. TLH says the file format is not supported.

Before I get castigated for using MP3, I have to. It's for work.

Please help.

Oh and no, I don't have any money. So if I have to use another program, it has to be a free program. Thanks.

Just tested this with a set of 48 kHz 24 bit files. No problems on my side...

Do you use the current release (2.7.0 build 172) of TLH?

They're 24/96 I believe, ripped from a Blu-Ray. And yes, as far as I know, my TLH is up to date...

Also no problems with a 96/24 file set (wav to mp3 and flac to mp3).
