Sony Vegas Masterclass

Hello all,

I've recently acquired Sony Vegas 8.0, and I've been having a play with it, and I have put together a couple of videos with my mate. I know the basics of how it works etc, and I'm hoping to branch out and have a go at editing some multi cam concert footage. I was just wondering if there are any Vegas experts here who could help me out, and advise the best way for to a) synch and external audio source to the video and b) edit together multiple video sources.

Any advice and/or links would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Great, thank you! I can't view YouTube at work (where I am currently), so I couldn't search there. I will do when I get home.

Re: Sony Vegas Masterclass

its not Vegas but the concepts/names are pretty much all the same, but Ken Stone's site has numerous tutorials re: a variety of editing techniques:
http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage...age_index.html

i use Final Cut so i can't give you Vegas-specific key strokes, but for syncing separate audio & video sources i usually use the drums and NOT the singer's mouth [common mistake that will throw you off]:

1. find the first cymbal crash in the first song and sync together by lining up the audio crash with the cymbal movement [you need to zoom in on yer timeline and adjust on a frame by frame level]

2. find a similar point at the end of the show/tape, scrolling frame by frame to find the exact hit, and note the time code [hh:mm:ss;ff] of the cymbal crash...do the same with the audio noting the time code...if in the video the drummer hits the cymbal before the crash on the audio, you need to stretch or slow the speed of the video track...if you hear the crash before seeing it, you need to shrink/speed up the video track

3. in Final Cut, there is a Modify > Speed function in the toolbar...subtract your two time codes to find the difference and adjust the length of the video track in the Modify > Speed

some people adjust the speed of the audio instead of the video, i do not! i find that even small changes in audio speeds can cause subtle but noticeable pitch differences, whereas the small change in speed on the video is not noticeable at all
