Is this the same Media? (VERBATIM)

Hi Everyone,

I have two questions that I'm hoping someone can shed some light on.

(1) I have searched high and low but I cannot find a MEDIA TESTER program. I'm looking for a program that will spit out all the details such as manufacturer code max speed etc when I put in a CD.

(2) What is the difference between these two DVD's other then the manufacturer code?

1- Verbatim (94971) 8X DVD-R White Inkjet Media Printable 50 Pack
2- VERBATIM DVD -R 8X 50 PACK MEDIA Manufacturer part code: 94852

Does anyone have a good record using the "94852" Verbatims?

Thanks a lot

Re: Is this the same Media? (VERBATIM)

Thanks AAR. I have Decrypter at home so I'll check it out later.

Anyone know what's up with these Verbatims?

I can get the "VERBATIM DVD -R 8X 50 PACK (94852)" for $20 but I wanted to check on the quality of the media first.

Thanks

Re: Is this the same Media? (VERBATIM)

It just seems hard to track down discs that are considered high quality and aren't an arm and a leg to order. I only have access to a Best Buy, a CompUSA, and a Circuit City, none of which seem to carry Taiyo Yuden discs.

It's just a bit discouraging to see people saying how if you don't have this kind of media, you can go fuck yourself with a wooden spoon before a trade will happen.

Re: Is this the same Media? (VERBATIM)

Thanks again AA. I have that page bookmarked. I know what is and what is not good media (as per list) but I'm wondering why the two different manufacturer numbers/codes.

Even if you look at the two images it appears as if both are from the same supplier (OEM). I'm just wonderding why I can get 100 Verbatims for around 30 dollars when it costs almost double anywhere else in Toronto.

Thanks again everyone!

Re: Is this the same Media? (VERBATIM)

there's numerous sites with inexpensive TY deals...i mean, if yer wanting to spend only 10cents a disc then no, but i get TY's for ~30cents for DVDr, and ~25cents for cdr...thats pretty damn cheap if ya ask me...

right now supermediastore.com has 100pk of TY DVD-R for 28 bucks.

Re: Is this the same Media? (VERBATIM)

different batch probably...either that or maybe different speeds? "model #" is less important imo than manufacturer...tho certain runs so have better compatability than others...

you can also check cdrinfo.com for more info [i think thats the addy]

Best Buy this week. 50 Pack Sony DVD+/-Rs (made in Japan) for $14.95, can't beat that for top tier media.

Ooo, thanks. That is just about the only good brand Best Buy carries. The paper neglected to put in ads for them this week.

Also, not to sound like I disagree with you, becuase I've never turned down a trade because of media types. But to the defense of those that are picky, trades should be "even" and if you are using cheap discs, I don't think it is unreasonable for someone to be unwilling to give you quality discs for cheap ones. I don't waste my money on garbage media, and if I'm trading high quality media, I like to see something comparable in return. TY ((brand)))isn't the only high quality media made, as the posted link shows.

I'm personally more anal about the burner used to make the discs. From personal experience I have found that, regardless of the media that is used, 80% of the DVD trades I have made, I end up having to reburn them becuase the trader was not using one of the best burners available.

I can burn garbage media with my burner and have it play on drives that won't even recognize the very best media burned on lesser drives. I'm a firm believer that the burner is just as important as the media ID.

Most players are not pickey enough for most people to notice the difference in the burner that was used, but I have a couple of players that are. (And one of the players was $200+ upconverting DVD player, so it isn't because the players are cheap pieces of junk).

That being said, I really think everyone should use high quality media for trading purposes. Garbage media for personal use is fine. I think we have pointed out that price isn't the real issue here, if people would do a little research before they buy, you can find high quality media at great prices, even at local stores. Just stock up when they go on sale, and you will be set.

Does your local Best Buy not carry TDK and Fuji as well?

Re: Is this the same Media? (VERBATIM)

The Fujis usually go pretty quickly, and I've had mixed success with TDK discs.
