DVD Burning Problems?

They are both ~4.7 GB, but a full DVD5 is 4.36 GB. So It's just over the limit of a DVD5. If you compress this, you will lose no quality, practically speaking.

You can use DVDshrink to compress to fit on a DVD5. There's no need to burn a $3 disc when it's only going to be a little over half full.

The reason it was originally seeded this way was because the original author didn't want to compress the video at all. It came to an inconvenient size at the end (eg barely over the soze of a DVD5 for each set), but he's seeding it out in the best possible quality and letting the downloaders do what they want with it after they get it.

And what sadu said is right. Say you download 2 DVDs that are only ~1.5 GB each. It's actually a real pain in the ass to get them both on the same DVD because you need to reauthor the entire thing. With blank media so cheap nowadays, thankfully that's not necessary.

I am a newbie and just received my 1st dvd. I also just installed my new dvd burner and everything seems to be going well. I hope I used the proper software. I used dvd decrypter to rip the files to my harddrive. What software should I be using to create my own dvd of the show? The burner came with Nero Suite (i have ever used it before) but I am not sure I can burn with that?

You can also use DVD Decrypter to burn:

1. Select Mode -> ISO -> Write
2. Open your created .ISO file.
3. Select your DVD Writer
4. Burn the DVD by clicking the HD>DVD-image

Thanks - but I don't think I have any files that are .iso (not sure what that means), but when I tried following your directios, I couldn't get anything to come up. I found the files on my harddrive and they appear to be tvs files?

Do you have any problems playing officially released movie DVD's? Try and see. Get a long movie like Lord of the Rings. If the problem is dual layer discs then you won't be able to play it. Like I said, lots of movies are on dual layer discs. It wouldn't make any sense to manufacture a product that does not play a great deal of the media it is intended to.

I downloaded a DVD from this site (ween_vegoose), I'm trying to burn it to DVD (nero's pissed me off with error messages), I'm trying to use DVD Decrypter as above, but there are no ISO files in the Video_TS folder. Do I need to create one, and how??

I ended up just using Nero express.. it told me "DVD-video files compliance test failed. The resulting DVD-Video might be unplayable" when I went to burn.. but i did it anyway, and plays in my DVD player just fine..

It's possible that a DVD player would not work with DVDR / Dual Layer but may work with commercially produced Dual Layer discs.

I'm pretty new to DVD burning, but I am a very techinally savvy computer user.

I need some advice/help...

"A friend of mine" recieved a dvd that plays Ok on a computer but does not play OK on a DVD player. When played on a DVD player the video has "horizontal hold" problems. It's very possible this DVD originated in Europe.

I assume this means the original DVD had some form of copy protection and the person who copied it just did a disk copy instead of a "rip & burn" method to strip the copy protection.

Is my assumption correct ? Can I correct this without the original DVD ?

I tried using DVDFab Decrypter on the DVD, but the copy it generated has the same problem.

oh holly hell, i mean those cheap players from tesco or whereever, they dont play dual. Its original dvd all bought and all. So my doesnt play duals, I got dvd shrink and will decode. thanks

Run it through a program called IFOedit and see if the video properties match what a standalone dvd is.

So can anyone tell me if the horizontal hold issue is an artifact of copy protection ?? or NTSC vs PAL ?
