Question should you limit the number of downloaders in torrent software?

i am contemplating limiting the number of downloaders that can connect to a torrent via my torrent agent at any one time because i figure that it will spread the torrent faster if people are able to complete the download in a shorter time.

right now i allow (and always have allowed) every leecher to connect that wants to. but i noticed that my torrent agent (Azureus) instinctively spreads the torrent more to the people that have less of it, ie: people newly joining the torrent. this means that people who are very close to completing the show will have to wait longer each time a new person joins the swarm.

or does it?

am i, in fact, doing the right thing by allowing everyone to connect to me whenever they like?

would it be better to let, say, 10 people complete it and spread it around while i only accept a new leecher every time an older leecher becomes a seeder?

i know this isn't a big deal, but it sometimes seems silly when i see that i have uploaded 4 GB of a torrent that is only 3 GB and the most that anyone has is, like, 80% of the torrent.

what do you think?

Are you talking about limiting it as the original seeder? Have you ever tried turning on Super Seeding when you initially seed? http://home.elp.rr.com/tur/superseed.txt

Azureus (Vuze) > Options > Queue > Seeding > Use Super Seeding

**opinion**

quit tweaking with your software - the programmers have already coded your torrent client software for optimization.
there is a component that checks your bandwidth & sets the parameters appropriately for sharing out.

thanks but i have obviously not been able to communicate my question well enough.

i'm not talking about bandwidth. i was saying that if only one person connected, they would get the show faster, whereas when 30 connect the person who is nearly finished will have to wait for the others to catch up.

i really should have learned to write as fluidly as i think.

don't waste your time with this crap question.

thanks.

JC, I really think enabling super-seed mode will do what you want - it rewards those that share by giving them more of your data. So, if you are the seeder in super-seed mode, your client will share more with those that share than with a user who is not sharing and thus, the show seeds out quicker with you not having to seed out as much.

Although super-seed mode allows to decrease amount of 'wasted' bits, it slows very much upload. If I want to speed up I block peers with slow upload rate.
