Re: is this lossy?

Is it an FM source? 16KHz guide tone. Not lossy IMO, many FM transmissions are weaker above 16K. Helps avoid interfernce with the guide tone.

Re: is this lossy?

I've seen old recordings that are pure lossless that look like this... there's something suspicious going on up around 20kHz maybe you could post in black & white so we can see better or link a sample (10-20 seconds or just a short track to rapidshare/megaupload/sendspace or similar).

I read about the black and white color in the faq but for some reason when I look in the color options for adobe its not listing a spectral color which is wierd cause it should be there.

the sample is from the led zep honolulu show, acapulcogold posted today, hes getting some complaints so I thought I would ask you guys what you thought.

its supposed to be from the box of tricks release so if anything is wrong its on their end.

thanks guys

here is the link to a small sample

Re: is this lossy?

there is a bit of an eq rolloff at the top but no sign of lossy encoding in sight. its noise all the way up to the top, and I have seen other old lossless recordings with this kind of frequency response (one I even transferred myself from vintage 1970s cassette so I know how it looks).

try going in settings and put the gamma on spectral to 0.6 temporarily and you can see that its not blocky and blacked out at the top as it would be with an mp3. just sounds & looks like a poor aud to me.

Re: is this lossy?

you're welcome

F4 then go to colors tab then you'll see it there this is also where you can make a black and white preset.

if F4 doesn't work on your version go to options>settings from the dropdowns at the top

Hi Five

the F4 button does take me to the color pallet but spectral view isnt listed there and in my version which is the latest there is no button for settings under the option tab.

maybe I should reinstall

Re: is this lossy?

d'oh! after you go to the colors tab, there's a smaller tab underneath that has 'spectral' as an option.

here's a pic, see if you can find it in your version...

Re: is this lossy?

whoa, looks like they took it out

if you want that feature you could downgrade to AA1.5 just avoid v2.0 its buggy as f*ck.
