Power Calibration Error when I burn dvds

I can burn dvds using EZ Video, but when I use ULead, it says power calibration error. I like ULead better. What is this error? Also, for transferring vhs to dvd, is composite cables ok instead of s-video?

Composite is probably going to be fine. I would suggest using manual tracking to get the best possible image from your VHS tape, rather than letting the VCR automatically track it for you. As for power calibration, the software probably can't figure out how much power your burner needs to use to burn the DVD. This can be a lot of different things. Everything from cheap discs, dirty read/write eye in the drive, among other things. You might try cleaning your drive with a cleaning disc, then make sure any software related to the burning process is up to date. You can also try changing the brand of discs you use, or you might try burning at a lower speed to see if that solves your problem. I hope one of those helps you out!

Re: Power Calibration Error when I burn dvds

Thanks, I tried most of those things before. I am just going to burn it with EZ Video since I can save VSP files as video files in ULead. Do you know how to stop automatic tracking? I have a Samsung. Does that look bad on vhs transfers if the tracking comes up?

I'm not sure on your VCR. I'd refer to the owner's manual. People generally get better results manually tracking. Adjust it until it looks the best to you, then rewind the tape and start your transfer.

I was only able to remove the automatic tracking for a second less.I'll have to keep it.

Re: Power Calibration Error when I burn dvds

re: tracking.. if you could find owner's manual perhaps? depends on the situation.

I'm not a video expert but have always been looking for a vcr with s-video out at the goodwill/garage sales and lots of nice old vcrs for cheap but look on the back its missing this feature. hard to find. you should try to figure how to capture using this output and compare quality.. I think it is better than composite, if you're able. fwiw it really helps with my old nintendo consoles

Re: Power Calibration Error when I burn dvds

Power calibration error might have something to do with the laser diode of the DVD burner. It has nothing to do with the analog video.
