Lossless compression digital recorders

For the sake of getting more recording time on a single media element, do any recorders support lossless compression such as the ones allowed here at TTD for seeding, or even WMA lossless? I know that there are some that allow on the fly recording to mp3 or WMA at the various bit depth. I don't recall ever seeing anything that encode to lossless compressed.

Re: Lossless compression digital recorders

perhaps Im not reading your question correctly...but..

mp3, ogg, shn, flac are all compression methods for the SIZE of the file.

lossy or lossless source -when you burn out an audio CD the TIME length of the tracks are exactly the same - any source file would take the same amount of space on the CD-R media - a standard CD-R offers roughly 80 mins of music - standard red book format.

if you are creating an mp3 CD..a lossy CD of music.. yeah..you could lower the bitrate to gain more space for tracks/songs ... because you are burning data files to a disk.

Re: Lossless compression digital recorders

He's asking if any hard disk or flash media recorders record directly to SHN, FLAC, etc...

The answer is no. The only on the fly compression any do is MP3. Most don't even support playback of FLAC or SHN unless you have a custom firmware like RockBox.

Thanks stantheman1976. That is what I suspected to be the case.
