Need help with burning problems

I am trying to get some shows off my hard drive and I am running into a very anoying problem that maybe y'all can help me with. I am burning shn and flac shows onto cd's as data discs. My burner is a Sony DRU 720-A DVD/CD burner and I am using Nero 6. When I burn, I always check the "verify data after burning" box. I am getting at least 50% (sometimes much more) of my burns are failing the data verification stage....stating that sectors are different on the disc from those on the hard drive. It is starting to be coaster after coaster. Is there a way I can tell if my burner has crapped out...or if nero is giving me false readings? I can say that I have run the md5 files on some of the discs that were burned (the ones that failed the verification test) and it showed that the files were bad. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

If the MD5's aren't verifying, then yes, you have a problem. (FYI...Nero's verification deal can be a little weird from time to time so I don't even use it...save you some time on the burn...just check the MD5's and FFP's after the burn like you're doing).

Sounds to me like your burner is shot. Or maybe the media you're burning to is suspect. Or...a combination of the two. What kind of media (brand) are you using?

Also try slowing down the speed to 4x if you've been using higher speeds.

Re: Need help with burning problems

nero verify has been good to me... I have heard that it is not 100% accurate but when it fails you know you have a bad disc

try slowing down the speed & some different media

let us know how it goes for you

Re: Need help with burning problems

Thanks everyone! I am burning at the slowest speed that it allows me to (4x for dvd's and 8x for cd's) and am using TDK discs which have always been good to me. Since it is Saturday and I have some time to spend on it, I will burn a bunch and let you know how it goes.
Thanks again!

Accurate?

All it does is basically to keep checksums of the files it writes on dvd, then read back the files from the dvd after burning and compare their checksums to the ones it kept.

(So pretty much the same as what another poster suggested to do manually)

umm... I'm confused as to why you think this is not a good strategy for verifying what is on the disc is identical to what's on the hd?

checking ffp will only read the headers of the FLACs

perhaps FLAC "test" mode applied directly to the FLACs on the disc is better?
