Re: vhs editing question..

I'm not at my computer with the editing software.... but when you have the video in your timeline. There are two boxes at the end. I think the top one is the pan/crop button. Click that. It opens up a window. Then you define your crop area.... keep in mind it's gonna loose good info to keep correct DVD proportions. It's also gonna crop and enlarge to fill the frame which will degrade the quality some. I suppose you could crop and center and have black bars at the top and bottom also to avoid enlarging.

yes before you render.

Re: vhs editing question..

Overscan garbage on the bottom (and sometimes on the top and sides) is a pet peeve of mine and I hate watching DVDs that have this problem. In my opinion, it displays a slackness on the author's part - it's quite simple to remove without the loss of any quality.

All you need to do is add a black border around the edges that covers the head switching noise. You don't have to stretch the video or do any of that sort of stuff.

Check out section "7.1.5 Removing garbage at the bottom of the clip" on the following page: (using VirtualDub) http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/cap...sing_vdub.html

Note: that link mentioned subsection "7.1.6" - the correct subsection should be "7.1.7". Also, the NTSC DV resolution is 720 x 480.

Re: vhs editing question..

how is it a pet peeve if the only way you would see it is if you used the player to scan down
otherwise it will be covered/cut by the edge of the tv
seems you would have to go out of your way to see it

I also find it annoying and always crop it out
