Re: PLEASE HELP A NEWBIE!

download xACT......might I suggest google n wiki to explain it more clearly than I might...however I will give it a shot.
once you have xACT open the app.....hit the decode tab, set it to convert to .aiff drag the files suffixed .flac to the window n hit decode.....if you like you can output the files directly to iTunes....(that is what I do when I am putting this stuff into iTunes.(then using your ears listen to that stuff))

come visit the lounge and see the mighty show...if you dare (cue spooky music)

Re: PLEASE HELP A NEWBIE!

You can play flac/shn files directly using Cog

I prefer it over iTunes anyway...or you can use xACT to decode the flac/shn files to wav or aiff

Re: PLEASE HELP A NEWBIE!

Daddtrayroll,
I got Cog, and it worked after some bungled tries!!

Now, if you have some time, would you teach me how to upload some of the shows I have? how do I turn something INTO Flac? And, if I do not know the source, other than Soundboard, or Aud excellent, what do I do?
Heidi

Re: PLEASE HELP A NEWBIE!

for uploading you must read bits of the FAQ...Lineage is a big deal here.

Give it time...the poor thing hasn't even figured out the torrent process yet...They'll be running for the hills after a few minutes in there.

Simplified it's something like this:
I put the CD in, Create a folder and drag the tracks from the CD to the Folder... it takes a little bit. They show as .aiff. Then you drag all the tracks to the xACT window and encode to .flac by selecting the .flac button. It will then ask you where to put the .flac tracks and you can make a folder using the band name and date xxx-xx-xx. Use the slider to go to 8 smallest. There are ways you should learn in naming tracks. Name the tracks before doing a checksum. Then make an info.txt using Text Edit and an ffp checksum using xACT. I saw you were using another application so you can do it with that if you prefer.

For xACT http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14246/xact.

just a note, but a few yrs back some of us mac heads did a CD extraction experiment and found that the drag&drop method is not accurate & doesn't catch errors like it should

if ripping from Audio CD, i'd recommend using XLD...its the most accurate, wil adjust for offsets, and gives you an extraction log

just a fwiw

Or use iTunes with the 'error correction' box ticked.

Re: PLEASE HELP A NEWBIE!

iirc, even with the Error Correction box checked in iTunes, it still missed some of the errors that XLD and xACT picked up on [iTunes doesn't use AccurateRip]...wish i could remember where that thread was
