I think much bigger shame is that most people here don't even drop simple thanks for a torrent. Usually it's not more than 10% of all who download. Strange but on Dime is better...

thats what i always thought...but consider this, if yer looking for info on the show or opinions on quality, searching thru 20 pages of "Thanks" and "OMG, I was at that show!" posts can be a bit irritating...and pointless

i wish people posted more comments on quality, be it the recording itself or even the set...rarely has anyone ever commented on that aspect of our recordings [& usually only on the DVDs] but then again, i fail to do so most of the time...and the few times i've made any comments about the recording quality other than "brilliantly recorded", it was met with childish defensiveness and a slew of attacks that "i should just be happy someone recorded the show" seems people don't want to learn these days, nor do they want anyone to know/think they're novices [despite the fact thats exactly what they are]

but bygones...now back to the uber-leeches

Re: Name & Shame Uberleechers Thread

I just started using this site this week, and I have to say that this thread makes me want to shut down my seeds and head back over to DIME. I'm in the process of sending out (by snail mail) four copies of the absurdly-large DVD files I just downloaded from TDD, so don't forget to add an extra 27GB to my "shared" totals if you feel the need to judge me numerically.

If you want to enforce a share ratio, enforce a share ratio like TONS of other BT sites do. But if you decide not to enforce a share ratio, then it's really obnoxious to sit around publicly judging those who don't live up to your own personal standards. Climb down off your high horses and just enjoy the music.

Re: Name & Shame Uberleechers Thread

Absurdly large files? You've downloaded 7 gigs...that's not even one of my torrents which average 10+ gigs.

Add 27 gigs to your total? For what, where's the proof of that occurring, we're just supposed to take your word for it?
The fact that people do share other ways here is why we don't have ratio enforcement (though some of us would like to implement it). Because we don't enforce it, we feel public ridicule is a way to make peeps aware.

Dime has a ratio enforcement, at the rate you're going, it won't be long before your privilidges are revoked.

Wow, dude, I'm really impressed by the size of your torrents.

Quote:

You will probably be astonished to learn that when I said "add 27GB to my total", I was using what I like to call "a rhetorical device", and not making a literal request. I say this because you apparently missed the point I was trying to make about passing judgement based on a single statistic.

Quote:

The BT community already has an established standard for insuring that people contribute back to the communities they belong to. Some sites implement it (to varying degrees) and some don't, but public ridicule is hardly a reasonable alternative. It just makes the site unfriendly for newbies and encourages petty moralizing that (it seems to me) is the antithesis of what the whole "sharing music" idea is all about.

Quote:
Dime has a ratio enforcement, at the rate you're going, it won't be long before your privilidges are revoked.
See, now, there's that whole "passing judgement based on one statistic" thing again. My ratio at Dime is going up, just like my ratio here.

There are always (some) exceptions and I wont waste my time reading this thread.

I would think most ppl who leech wouldn't care. I mean they could always change their name, couldn't they?

I know what you mean. It's a bit disheartening when you put a lot of effort into organising and uploading a torrent to find about 25 people leeching and not one comment in the thread! People usually have something constructive to say, they just need to put the effort into typing it out. Grr.

I wish I could d/l and U/L but because of slow speed dial up I cant.Ive had many people trade with me and do B&P's for me on these threads because I cant d/l. I ,for one, very much appreciate the efforts of those who tape, and those who share. . Thank you all VERY MUCH.Without you guys {and you know who you are} there would be no music or video or sites like this.Thank all of you again for your unselfishness!! To those who leech and dont stay on for others to get the shows? SHAME ON YOU!! Why wouldnt you stay on so others can get it also? That defeats the whole purpose of SHARING!

Re: Name & Shame Uberleechers Thread

I want to come out and say hello and point out that my ratio is crap.

I downloaded the huge A/B Road Beatles torrent to the tune of 15 gigs, and then my computer HD crashed and I lost it all!

In my shame I disappeared from here for a while, but found something I wanted the other day and decided to poke my nose in again. I've got several torrents DLed now and they're going to sit there for quite some time. If anyone wants Frank Sinatra PLEASE download it and I will be happy to upload it to you!

At the late-great Demonoid I had a 2.4 with 700g shared, so having a crap ratio isn't something I normally do or enjoy. In fact I feel guilty about it. Even on public trackers I seed for quite some time.

Surely I'm not alone in having a poor ratio and feeling that I've let down the community rather than being an arse about it as some have in this board as I've been reading old posts today.

Just let me say I'm sorry, and thank you.

Re: Name & Shame Uberleechers Thread

Look at my ratio. I dont even have one.Im stuck on slow speed dial up with an antique relic of a computer.I depend on the fine folks who offer vines, trades and B&P's.That is what I would suggest to you {if you dont mind}.Post your list here on TDD {in the proper forum of course} and offer up B&P's and snail trades. There are a lot more of "us" out there than you would think and I know that others in the same boat Im in would greatly appreciate it.That is how I give back anyway.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! Hope to see some of you at Ziggys for the last "Thanksgathering".I am really looking forward to meeting some of you guys!!

For me I'm disabled and doing the whole 'real life' trading thing is a real problem.

I'll get it up in time, I just saw it today and grimaced and felt like going to the confessional

I also need to go through and see what I have that would interest people to upload - the whole 'flac logs, frequency analysis etc thing is daunting as hell to me though. I've got to get my head around it first.
