Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

Ok, this may not be entirely appropriate to this thread, but I couldn't find a more appropriate thread, and I don't think it deserves a thread of its own. Please move/delete if I'm treading on any toes by doing so.

So...I taped a show last night. ADC battery died at the start of the second encore. Would anyone want the incomplete show? (ie should I up it)

I'm sure people would love the incomplete show.

I want to ssurprise the folks on this site with the show, I really want to seed this show, but I also want to make a real effort to follow the rules at the same time. I also used trader's little helper, and created the finger prints file myself, since the show didn't come with one, and when I created the finger prints file, everything appears to check out. I look forward to hearing from you, thanks for all your help on this, and I can't wait to seed this show.
Hey donovana, I'm not sure you got your answer from Jamie, but basically you would write the lineage like this:
SBD > ? > CDR(x) > EAC > FLAC > WAV > Magix ACL (speed correction only) > WAV > FLAC Level 8

CDR(x) is acceptable for lineage *unless* it is a generation of a Silver pressed CD. But, if this isn't "Silver CD > CDR(x) > etc" then you are fine. Feel free to PM either myself or Jamie (Five) if you have more questions about this.

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

Hi.
This is more of an equipment check than
an actual lineage check.
I don't have very professional gear, but
I taped a show recently
and have made the torrent, but would like to
get an opinion about it before trying to post.
(first timer)
-----------------------------------------------------
Lineage:
AUD (Aiwa CM-P22 stereo mic -> Sharp MD-DR7-S mini-disc recorder)> CDR(M) (Teac RW-D280 analog input)> WAV (xcdroast v0.98alpha15 with paranoia 50 / cuepoints edited with gnusound 0.7.4) > FLAC8 (flac 1.1.0)

Software:
http://www.xcdroast.org/manual/first.html#setup
http://www.gnu.org/software/gnusound
http://flac.sourceforge.net/
-------------------------------------------------
I'm mostly concerned about the transfer from
the CDR(M) to WAV.
I've included links to the software vendors if
you have the notion to check.

This is a great forum.
I DID learn a lot from reading other peoples' questions
and the answers that followed.

Thanks for any time you have to mull this over. m(_ _)m

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

Hi Lynn and five. That sounds good, thanks for all your help on this. I'll write the lineage exactly how lynn wrote it, and we'll give it a whack. I'll make the torrent shortly, thanks again. I love seeding shows.

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

Another first timer who taped his first show here. I've read through this thread but it seems to be people who didn't tape the shows wondering about lineage. Here's what I've got for mine:

AUD > Panasonic RQ-L30 > SBLive! > Audacity > mkwACT > SHN

Does that look alright?

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

only thing missing is the mics used... or if they are built into the Panasonic you should mention that. otherwise perfect.

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

You know, I was talking to Five and Aaron the other day about a 'Writing Lineage for Dummies' guide (actually, for myself, I'm not a taper, I just wanted to understand the exact sequence). So, if you don't get a response from them right away, shoot Five or Aar.oner a PM and they will help you write it correctly.

Edit: Ha! Five beat me to it. Hi Five!

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

When I first looked at it, I figured it must be (since it's Capitol records). But, then I did a search of their discography and couldn't find it. Then I googled "Capitol records V-15523" and came up with a hit: http://hiphop.discogs.com/release/538448

So, I'd say yes, it is an official release.

Allowed?

FM > Silvers > EAC > Mkw > SHN > WAV > CDR > EAC (secure mode, offset corrected, log files appended) > WAV > FLAC 1.1.0 via FLAC Frontend 1.7 (Level 8) > FLAC

This is a Swinging Pig release according to the text file.

Nope, sorry. From the ABT FAQ:

5. CDR rips of material available on Silver CD and rips of CDRs burned from previously downloaded lossless files are not permitted.
We at The Traders' Den are trying to promote purity in the trading pool. When dealing with a set that has been released on silver pressed CD, we require that the lossless files have been cleanly ripped from an original silver CD. To help ensure that everyone has equal access to pure versions, Silver CD > CDR > Lossless is not a legal lineage. On the same token, once a show has been ripped to lossless media format, burning to a CD and then re-extracting is an extraneous step that often-times results in errors. FLAC, APE, or SHN sets that circulate may not be burned to audio CD and then re-traded or re-seeded. Please archive and trade only the original lossless files or acoustically identical alternate formats (verify this with shntool md5s). CDR generations are bad for the trading pool, and unless all versions of the bootleg circulate only on CDR, it will not be permitted here.

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

I'd like to know why something like this: SHN > WAV > FLAC is allowed here. I realize it's no loss of quality but why are people allowed to upload such things when the original is what currently circulates.

Why put yet another form of compression into the pool?
