2 x Dat sources

Got a couple of sources recently with some pretty sketchy details, both sourced from DAT originally. Can I call on the expertise of the Trader's Den?

Re: 2 x Dat sources

I realise that EAC doesn't give the most reliable data for these things, but don't have anything else available at the moment. Here's a couple of links to some clips -

source 1 - http://rapidshare.com/files/13217345...clip.flac.html

second source - http://rapidshare.com/files/13217654...clip.flac.html

Please feel free to delete the image files from ttd when someone's given a definitive answer. The spectrum for 97 looks ok, but just checking that's a normal run off in the freq anal. However, the 98 spectra doesn't look so good to my eyes - appears a bit more blocky, and the freq anal looks crap.

Opinions valued.

Re: 2 x Dat sources

imo 32kHz DAT that was transferred thru the analog ins of a soundcard, perhaps SoundBlaster Live! due to the mirroring artifacts just above 16kHz and has also been on audio CDR at some point after that with some extraction/duplication errors here and there.

sounds swishy but I can't see any direct evidence that it was ever mp3-encoded, even at a high bitrate.

would love if somebody else could also take a look (ssamadhi97, range_hood, are you out there?).

I'd say an audience recording to cassette before transfer to DAT

Re: 2 x Dat sources

Ok, thanks very much for your opinions. Something funny has happened somewhere, as I´ve found out (from info obtained from the original tapers)the lineage doesn´t match the source information for these shows, but it looks very likely that both came from cdrs taken from Dat clones.

It seems likely you made the correct diagnosis Five! Thanks,

Cheers,
J
