I've seen Divx/xvid torrents of TV shows, and a 700mb file produces a very nice video. 1.5gb and you basically have a 720p recording. I've never watched such a file on an HD display, but on my 21" monitor, the latter was always flawless. At 700mb, I generally don't notice any major issues. Certainly nothing that's any worse than HD received via Antenna (better than any HD over Sat or Cable).

Isn't HDDVD and/or Blu-Ray using Mpeg4 compression?

Re: MPEG-4 quality..good or bad or average..??..

MPEG 4 is great quality.

MPEG4 (AVC) > MPEG4 (XviD) > MPEG2 (DVD) > MPEG1 (VCD)

People think MPEG4 is worse quality then MPEG2 because MPEG2 is 4-9GB per movie, and thats great quality. But MPEG4 is normally 700GB or 1.4GB.

Oh, and the different kinds of MPEG4 are quite different. AVC beats XviD by quite alot.

AVC is also called MPEG-4 Part 10, and H.264.

Thats irrelevant ;P

Blu-Ray has much more space, but it is using the older and not as good MPEG2. HDDVD has less space, but is using the much better MPEG4.

So, for movies, HDDVD is better. For data, Blu-ray is better.

Hmm...I thought that Blu-Ray decided to support Mpeg4 too after receiving pressure from ....well from some group...don't remember who.

Regardless, thanks for confirming what I already thought.
