metallica master cassette to minidisc

My brother has been getting rid of all of his cassettes and has transfered his metallica reading festival 97 aud master to md.At the moment im not sure what mode he recorded it in ( lp/lp2 etc ) when transferring it to minidisc. If it was recorded to the md in lp/lp2 mode would that still be acceptable to transfer to pc,save as wav/flac and then trade/torrent the recording.Sadly he doesnt have the master cassette anymore which is what i asked him for in the first place,so this is the next best thing. As far as i know( but cant be 100%) this is the only complete recording of metallica from the festival,as the pro shot video isnt the complete set.

Re: metallica master cassette to minidisc

This is indeed the same recording, but it was taken from 2 60 minute cassettes which means it has a few fades in it( was orginally taped on a 110 min cassette ).Im hoping that once i get the md,then it can be done again with only fades for the start and finish of each disc.If there is a problem,or no interest then thats fine, just thought id at least ask.

Re: metallica master cassette to minidisc

yeah, but why transfer a master cassette to a lossy digital format? Do you know if the MiniDisc recorder supports uncompressed WAV instead of ATRAC? It needs to do 44.1kHz / 16 bit per channel natively, else you're actually degrading the audio.

Re: metallica master cassette to minidisc

Well the reason it was transferred to md is because thats the only other format my brother has when it came to transferring his cassettes. Also i dont think my brother fully understands lossy and lossless( or torrent jargon etc etc etc )properly so i guess he just wanted to get it transferred and get rid of the cassette. If it wont be worth seeding/trading,then i guess thats a small loss for me.

No, it would not be welcome at TTD in that format.

not to say there aren't other trackers where it would be acceptable, or that other traders wouldn't want a copy...just can't seed it here at TTD
