XLD is the only acceptable ripper for OS X

On the face of it a slightly contentious statement but as long as you're running OS X 10.3 or above there is no justification for not running XLD, even if your drive is non-caching/has a very low cache value. Make sure "Automatically check for updates" in Preferences is checked or use the check for updates from the XLD drop down menu.

Check XLD release notes

Anyone who wants to argue the toss, let me direct you to:

OS 9 and pre-OS X 10.3 users are out of luck and I'm not sure how 10.3 users will ensure that they're always using the latest updates but for all other Mac users, XLD is the nec plus ultra, cat's pyjamas, bee's knees and dog's dangly bits.

Lynne, do you have any "mildly damaged" discs, i.e. anything that makes EAC performs a few re-reads but that something like iTunes cannot rip consistently.

The HA crew are concentrating on XLD but it might be nice to see how xACT compares to XLD on such rips.

I only have an irreperable disc and I owe the library too much in fines to be able to borrow some weatherbeaten examples. Bad me.

I'd have to search around for one. Maybe if I sneak into my kids room I'll find some disc sitting around out of the case.

(And sign up for the option at the library where they email you three days before your books are due. Then you just hit the link to the site and renew all. No more fees!)
