Question OpenMG?

I'm new to Minidisc recording. I just bought one and found I can only transfer to OpenMG format. I can't find any way to convert that, nor do I think it is possible. I then found that somehow using Sonic Simple-piece-of-crap you can burn those onto a CD. I can't configure my CD burner to work with this program at all. I want to know if there is some other way to record other than in the OpenMG format, or if there is any way to convert it. Thanks.

Re: OpenMG?

You might want to post the model number of your recorder. That may help those that have them to help you better.

Re: OpenMG?

Get the newest SonicStage (3.4) and if you recorded it yourself when you transfer it to hd it will also make a wav copy for you. OpenMG is encrypted and nobody has cracked the code to date that I know of, so you are stuck with the shitty Sony software unfortunately. There is another prog called "HiMD Renderer" but under careful scrutiny I found it put a few crackles into the wav which Sonic Stage didn't so stick with SS.

Get your recordings off the HiMD as fast as you can to wav and then compress to FLAC and verify. The info on the minidisc is encrypted in yet another format that can't be decoded by anybody and if you drag the contents off a disc and try to put it back on or read it later you are screwed. There was a guy who posted here last year who recorded his own band on a HiMD and pulled the contents onto his HD via usb (no ss), then rerecorded over and there was no way he could get any of that music back, evern putting it back on the discs, not even an analog transfer possible. so watch out. Sony is terrible in this way.

read a bunch on minidisc.org, best site for info on this.
