out of phase recordings

Hello,
I have a question to out of phase recordings.

When you have a recording and you think by hearing this might be out of phase.
Is there a Software you can test with that it is out of phase, or can you judge this only by hearing ?

And if you have a out of phase recording, which Software do you use to correct this (Freeware ?) ?

Thanks
