frequency analysis and spectrum

Hey guys,

little help please..

I am wondering what the settings should be for this frequency crap.
I have this lossless show, i have no reason to doubt the trader, but im wondering why traders little helper says "95% MPEG".
I have this screenshot of the analysis, but not sure if the setting are correct.

please tell me if what setting are best to get an accurate reading.

Thanks,
Yes I'm a noob

Re: frequency analysis and spectrum

What you are looking at is the long term spectrum, but that is not very indicative of lossiness. You need the short term spectrum, and audacity can also show you that.

Right click the track name, and select Spectrogram - you should then alter the Spectrogram Settings and set the Window Size to 1024.

Then spotting lossiness is super easy. Top is lossless, bottom is 128kbps MP3. Note how the lossy version has sharp blocks and many missing pieces in the upper frequency range whereas the lossless source has a smooth falloff.
