Question Announcing the URL

This is my first time ever trying to upload any file. The file is on my hard drive. When I try to upload the torrent file I get this message:

Manage Attachments
Upload Errors
Rolling Stones 71-03-26 Marquee Club DVD.torrent:
Invalid announce url! It MUST be http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/...r/announce.php

Where does this announcement go and do I have to start completely over again with the filling out the form? Obviously I missed a step somewhere but I don't see it. Thanks

Re: Announcing the URL

the announce will go somewheres in the prog you use to make your torrent [i.e azureus, etc]

if you could let us know which prog you use to run/make torrents, someone'll be able to walk you thru

Re: Announcing the URL

Here is a guide on how to make a torrent using Azureus. It is similar to other programs. In the first screen, you will see where the announce url is used.

- open up bittorrent
- to to File > Generate
- drag/drop the folder you want to make a torrent of into the top part of the box
- select Tracker Url
- input "http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/tracker/announce.php" in the space next to Tracker Url
- click Generate...

Re: Announcing the URL

U2Lynne,

This is interesting. I can't find anything that looks like the image you gave me for reference. When I open my BitTorrent v5.03 I get a screen that gives me three choices for file:

Add Torrent file
Add Torrent URL
Make new Torrent

I uninstalled and re-installed the application but still don't have any form that looks like the one you have shown. Appreciate any help you can give me on this. Thanks.

Sphinx

Re: Announcing the URL

U2Lynne,

Here is the form I get when I go to make a new torrent.

Could I be having this problem because I am firewalled? I hope not but if that's the case I'm out of luck because I work at a University and have no way of turning it off.

Re: Announcing the URL

First off, you may want to think about getting uTorrent. Many PC users really like it.

I just downloaded it from this link: http://www.bittorrent.com/download.html and after it installed, I opened it and didn't get any questions asked of me. However, I went to File > Make New Torrent and got a window like yours. I would guess you hit Choose Folder and select the folder you want to make a torrent of, Title and Comments are unnecessary (or optional), leave Pice size at Auto, then put the ttd tracker url in User tracker and hit Publish. Then hit OK. Then, go to our upload page, fill out the form, select the torrent you just created, upload it, hit Create New Thread on the upload form, then download the torrent file from the thread you just created and seed with that torrent, not the one you created with bittorrent.

Re: Announcing the URL

you could try announcing by sticking a megaphone out the front door of your house and yelling through it. Then everyone would know.
