Does Microtrack firmware need to be changed for connecting to PC vs Mac?

I purchased a Microtrack on eBay a few days ago and the seller has updated it with the latest firmware using his Mac. He told me that since I use a PC I'll have to update it with the latest PC firmware, but I'm not so sure that he's right.

It's my assumption that the firmware from M-Audio is the same whether you download the Mac or PC version, and that they've just been packaged differently for ease of use on either system. Doesn't it just connect as a plug and play USB device? So it doesn't seem to me like it would need different firmware to be compatible with my PC than with his Mac. I'd rather not update the firmware if I don't have to...

There is a PC and Mac version I believe.

Definately don't need firmware upgrade if using a card reader. They should just be wave files, I believe.
