I know we aren't doing anything to stop you from downloading the torrent file, if that helps. (Like we have something against users with three 4's in their username. )
I think he mentioned that he is on a college network, so no ISP or router is involved in this case.

This sounds to me like a purpose attempt to block his downloading of the torrent file.

Unhappy Trouble DL torrents

Hey, I seem to be having a problem DL torrents. I never had this problem until recently, but every time that I click on a link to begin DL a torrent I always receive an error; "Cannot find server or DNS error". I have been DL torrents for over a year now and this has just started to happen recently. I'm at college and my best guess is that the internet here simply won't allow it anymore, but it did before. If there is anyone who can help me in any way I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: Trouble DL torrents

Can you right click and hit "save target as" to save the meta file to your hard drive?

Re: Trouble DL torrents

My friend recommended the same solution. I've tried that and I get the same error.

Have you tried downloading a torrent from a different tracker?

Try a non-personalized tracker...

Re: Trouble DL torrents

If you are on a PC running Windows 2000 or later try this:
click Start, Run type cmd (it's short for command), and hit Enter

then type ipconfig /flushdns
(make sure you have the space after g and no space after the /)

This has solved similar problems for me, but it may have no help. Just a thought. (It won't hurt anything).

What exactly is a non-personalized tracker and where do I find it?

Re: Trouble DL torrents

I believe etree does not used personalized torrents. We use personalized torrents, as does DIME and bootcity and so many other tracker sites. It simply means that there is a passkey embedded into your torrent file when you download it from the site which lets the tracker know who you are.

Yes, so try going to bt.etree.org and attempt to click on or download one of the torrents.

Also, if you are using uTorrent, try to copy the URL from the torrent file and past it into the dialog box that appears from File>"Add Torrent from URL...". I don't know if this option is in other torrent clients.

Re: Trouble DL torrents

I still received the same error when I went to bt.etree.org when I tried to download a torrent.

Re: Trouble DL torrents

You know, we had someone else talk about this error. I don't know if they found a way around it. Do a search in this forum for the error and then PM them.

If you do a Save As and then save with a different extension (like .txt)? Or do you never get any option just the error?

Re: Trouble DL torrents

No matter what I try I cannot download a torrent anymore; simply clicking on the link always results in an error that says "cannot find server or DNS error". In addition when I try to copy or save the URL from the torrent file and paste it into the dialog box it does not work; in this case I get a "server reset" error. Whether I try to DL from a personalized or non-personalized tracker nothing works. I mentioned this in an earlier post, but I do use the internet at my college which gave me absolutely no trouble with DL torrents until recently. Could something have been done with the internet that would not allow me to DL torrents the way I used to? That is my only guess to what the source of this problem may be. In reply to an earlier post, I cannot even "save as" without getting an error "the connection with the server was reset".
