Question Seperate Jazz Forum?

The recent post in the general forum made me think of this. I propose we bring back the old STG Jazz forum. There was always some really cool stuff in there, that seems to get lost in the clutter of this huge forum.

thoughts, comments, concerns?

Re: Seperate Jazz Forum?

suppose it could be a sub-forum of the ABT forum, just to provide a sorting method. Then people will want a Metal forum, a Jam Band forum, etc.. and we'll have to spend time moving things to the right place.

Re: Seperate Jazz Forum?

as much as i enjoyed the jazz forum at STG, it becomes a bit of a nightmare when there are too many sub-forums on a board...not to mention the amount of time it would undoubtedly add to the moderator's workload, as james mentioned

its one of those things that looks great on paper, but when put into action becomes more work/hassle than anticipated

Re: Seperate Jazz Forum?

of course, this dumps it in Lynne's lap, but we could modify the upload pages to have a checkbox for "is a Jazz torrent" or similar... then have a box to check on the adv search to filter all but records with that field set to true... that accomplish getting a listing of Jazz torrents... maybe even just include it on the search drop-down as a pre-config'd option for ease...

I'm sure code-monkey-boy can figure it out..

I have this other idea, too (unrelated) but I'm afraid to suggest it for fear of having a case of tomatoes tossed at me

Re: Seperate Jazz Forum?

Actually, I do have some ideas similar to what James posted. I'm working on upgrading the test site (I think I said this one year ago ) and after I do the upgrade, I can work on the mods for what I have in mind.

I think that's a good idea if it is an option.

Re: Seperate Jazz Forum?

random thought..

perhaps just request/announce of 'a jazz appreciation month'.
then a blues appreciation month..punk, funk, etc.

Ive noticed over the years that when just a certain group is seeded - a few other recordings of the same band follow suit. This may work for genre too.

from what Ive seen on other sites, allowing everyone to categorize a band just becomes a mess of whatnot.

it doesnt take that long to simply browse the active audio/video torrents IMO.

Re: Seperate Jazz Forum?

you guys raise some pretty good points about user classification. dime is a mess w/ artists in multiple categories and no consistancy. if i remember correctly, the jazz forum was self regulating, w/ mods who had the ability to kick/move torrents that didnt really fit the classification moved back to the general population (not that i am volunteering, i do not believe i am worthy). i just miss it because there was always really good stuff in there.

Re: Seperate Jazz Forum?

Jazz forum was great. Jazz discussion was great.

No need for any other subs. But that one stood its own. And I think my vote should count as 50.

I would even be happy to give an hour or 2 a night or so to mod such forum if one was to rise from the ashes.

Re: Seperate Jazz Forum?

The only problems with the stg jazz forum that i remember were the debate over if a show was ever commercially available should it be allowed and trying to distinguish what was a legitimate label.

I am not for splitting all the genres. It was just a very unique, good forum IMO. I know I miss it. Not everyone comes around a lot and the Jazz seeds do get pushed back rather quick. A lot of new Jazz was posted that I don't see a lot of.

And I loved the Jazz discussion as well.
