Zoom H4N Pro Recorder

Is anyone familiar with the Zoom H4N Pro recorder? If so, is it a good, easy-to-use, professional sounding recorder?

My mother-in-law is a historian and she conducts a lot of interviews. She needs something that is convenient to carry around, simple to use, reliable, and that makes clear and professional-sounding recordings. Not audiophile music recordings but recordings of interviews that can be used in a museum.

This particular device got good reviews and she's leaning toward it but asked if I could poke around to see if anyone is familiar with it.

If anyone is familiar with it, please let me know if it's a good choice.

Thanks!

Yeah, that device is fine. Most audio recorders these days will do the job sufficiently. If your MiL wants it, then go for it.

Re: Zoom H4N Pro Recorder

It should work great for interviews. If she's doing anything super important, she could run 4 channels, the internal mics with the unit on a table and also have two separate mics plugged in the dual 1/4" - xlr inputs. Perhaps lav mics for each person. If more than 2 people, could have up to 4 different mics going at once.

Its not as basic as some other recorders and takes a good 30 seconds to start up/load before you can begin recording.

Re: Zoom H4N Pro Recorder

Thanks so much for the answers. She did buy it and it seems easy to use. I'll forward the suggestions for the next time she has to use it.

Really appreciate the feedback.
