They'll probably extend that, because a lot of businesses still use XP (my computer at work does) and I saw this today:

"95% of the world's ATM machines are still running Windows XP and banks are already purchasing extended support agreements from Microsoft."

I still use XP Pro 64, but I'll be moving to 7 in March or April. I love XP, but a lot of the software I enjoy using no longer supports it (Photoshop, Lightroom, Vegas).

Malware support extended until July of '15.

By then, Windows 9 should be out.

Ever notice that ever other Windows release is a dog?
SP - stable
Millennium - crap
XP - stable
Vista - crap
7 - stable
8 - good try but fail
8.1 - appeasement
8.2 - appeasement ver. 2
9 - ?

Re: Windows XP - Support ends in april 2014

It's SO good to see that they are moving the date back yet again ... they are having to bow to the pressure of the fact that there are millions of corporate machines that are not ready to upgrade to 7, 8 or 9 yet, still, because corporate IT guys have been so busy trying to cope with the mess that Vista made where it went in, and the blinking bum-ache that was Win7 when that went in (although nowhere near as bad as Vista was).
I became utterly fed up with Windows after NT, and moved all production and play to Macs and other Apple devices. They mostly just work and everyone gets a lot less hassle all round, especially yours truly who is Mr. Technical Support to most people I know :-)

Re: Windows XP - Support ends in april 2014

I left XP a couple of days ago and I'm fiddling with some Linux releases at the moment. At first I was a bit reluctant of all the debian and tar stuff to install the most up-to-date software but once you get the hang of it, it's not that scary (still need a lot of info of how to install certain packages), but almost anything can be found on the internet and Linux communities.

Welcome aboard. Don't fear the command line, it can be daunting at first but resist the urge to say "intercourse the penguin" and you will be rewarded in short order. (Partial to Slackware myself)
