downloading partial torrents.

I have never looked into this idea....like a show misposted that gets stuck at 99 percent done or a two dvd set in which only one disc is playable...how does one set one's client or whatever to get only the bits when needs to complete the dl?
after all this time this has never arisen for me but now I am curious...
thanks

well in utorrent one can select which files to d'l so you could uncheck the box for any file you don't need but there isn't a way I know to grab less than whole files

or just d'l one flac to listen to for SQ before grabbing the whole thing

like this for instance:

Re: downloading partial torrents.

What is your OS? If you're on a PC, I know you can choose which files to d/l with utorrent.

In this scenario, you just point your client to the files you have already downloaded and it will check them and only download what it needs.

The other scenario is if you intentionally only want certain files and not others. I do this all the time when checking torrents for lossy files. You just click on the torrent in your client window, go to the tab that shows the files, then right click and set the priority at "Do not download" for the files you don't want.

Re: downloading partial torrents.

Deluge has a client for Mac, and also has the ability to de-select the files you might not want. It also has a setting to prioritize files, if you wanted to check out a certain part while still grabbing the rest. It can also edit trackers, like the time we had to remove 'the' from the tracker here during that fuckup.

Re: downloading partial torrents.

The key with Azureus on a Mac is to use the "Classic Interface". Using the newer "Fisher Price" interface does make it slow down and is a processor hog. The only way I know of to change to "Classic Interface" is to widen the window and on the top right a UI with Blue Arrows appears. Select Classic Interface and restart Vuse.

When you click a torrent you can select the files you want. Since you already use Vuse the Classic Interface will come really easy. It's also easy to set up a Private Tracker securely.

I've tried just about all the of the Mac Clients/Servers and Vuse is great in "Classic Mode"... I can't make sense out of the Vuse mode.
