Re: how to split dvd9 to 2 dvd5s..

I like to use DVD Shrink. The "Shrink" part of the name can be misleading though. If you have version 3.1, do the following:

Click "Re-Author"
Drag the main title over to the left
Click on the tiny chapter box (it has an arrow pointing left and right)
Find a good spot to split it in half (i.e. Chapters 1-10 for Disc 1, Chapters 11-20 for Disc 2)
Click "Backup"

For version 3.2

Click on "Re-Author"
Click on "Start/Select End Frames"
Then do the same listed above. This will take out the menu (which is unavoidable when spliting over 2 DVD5's), but chapter marks will stay intact, and there will be NO compression.

There are a few good tutorials on videohelp.com ... including some that show STLBlues's process in more detail.

That's easy to fix. Just sacrifice 2 more blanks, and burn them as Data DVD's. So if you trade w/ somebody, and they want the DVD9, they can just import both Data DVD5's to their PC, then burn as a DVD9.

I use a program called DVDFab Platinum. One of the nice features is this:

Re: how to split dvd9 to 2 dvd5s..

DVDFab will keep the menus but since they are intact, when you click on certain items, nothing will come up because the data is on the other disk. Only gets confusing when you have a compilation where there is a lot of menu items.

You can split the video, then import it to nero using the "make your own dvd" option and make your own menus

Re: how to split dvd9 to 2 dvd5s..

Thanks for the straightforward answer STLBlues, I had been told dvdshrink would do the trick for splitting discs but couldn't figure it out. Turns out it was almost embarassingly easy and split my video in minutes. Take it easy.

Re: how to split dvd9 to 2 dvd5s..

It is more time consuming & a little more work from an authoring stand point, and i personally enjoy being able to watch an entire show without having to change discs...
