Audio Video Out of Synch

I have always seemed to have a problem with my video and audio being out of synch when I try to convert the files or burn them on a CD. What am I doing wrong that is causing this to happen? The videos play fine when I preview them.

Re: Audio Video Out of Synch

imo, use handbrake to convert to x264 @ about 1800 kbps in an .mkv container using the same frame size and frame rate as the dvd. For ac3 (dolby digital), use the ac3 pass through. If dolby digital, vorbis, or aac is the audio you want, you could also use the .mp4 container. For lpcm use vorbis @ 320 kbps and if you want lossless audio, demux the dvd (with project X) to wav and then convert to flac, then add this flac to mkvmerge gui and get rid of the lossy audio. For mpeg1 layer 2 use vorbis at 320 and if you don't want double-lossy audio, demux to mp2, then add the mp2 to mkvmerge gui and get rid of the vorbis track. For DTS use vorbis at 320 with dolby pro logic II mixdown, and if you don't want double-lossy audio, demux to .dts, then add the .dts track to mkvmerge gui and get rid of the vorbis track.

Then split the mkv with winrar to fit on CD-Rs. These files won't be playable on a dvd player like a VCD or SVCD would be though. DVDRs are so cheap though, that if you wanted player compatibility, just burn a dvd as it was seeded.

everything here is DVD-ready, no need to convert or re-compress

what OS are you running?
what program are you using to burn with?
what type of disc are you buring [DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, etc]?

Im running a Mac OS X
I thought I needed to convert before burning. Can I just burn the files that I download without doing anything else? What program do you recommend?
DVD video is what Im usually burning
Any advice on converting videos onto IPOD?

no don't convert, everything here is DVD ready...i personally use Toast to burn with...you can burn one of 2 ways:

1. choose "DVD-ROM (UDF)" project and drag the downloaded VIDEO_TS folder, AUDIO_TS folder [which is empty], and EXTRAS_TS folder [contains info text, checksums, etc]...most DVD players will play this type of disc
2. choose "DVD-Video" project and drag the entire VIDEO_TS folder

not sure about converting for iPod since i don't use one, but i'm pretty sure Handbrake or ffmpegx hav automatic settings optimized for portable devices

Re: Audio Video Out of Synch

I am on a mac and I use "burn for mac" which is free to make dvds....after download I open the files and drag the VIDEO_TS folder into Burn...burn is set to data mode and DVD (UDF). Then I hit the burn button and wait to be prompted to put in a blank dvd-r...then I follow prompts to truly get the burn going...I do not put my stuff on an iPod but I too have heard that handbrake is the way to go for Mac.
