Because they're lossy.
And TTD doesn't allow lossy sources.

As for not trading them in general, because they'll start out as lossy & get degraded further along the way. And get passed off as non-lossy. You end up with multiple versions of crap.

now I have a bootleg of a show that was only released as mp3's by the taper, not that i ever plan on attempting to seed it or trade it here, but out of curiosity, if i have the first-generation mp3s burned to an audio CDR, would i be able to prevent further degeneration if i were to rip it using something like EAC?

Re: Getting Audio Off DVD's

To get mp3s as an audio CDR, they must be converted to .wav (you may not have done this yourself, but otherwise the burning program would have done so).
When they are converted, they suffer unnecessary bloat.
That is, the resulting .wav files are much larger, but contain no additional audio info.
So even if you ripped it perfectly using EAC, you still have bloated lossy files.

If mp3 was the only way the taper shared the show, then the original mp3s would be the stop point. Any other conversion would result in further degradation.
