Firewall help, please

Hi, all. Sorry to be asking a question so soon after getting here, but I got a little carried away, downloaded a handful of shows, and then noticed that I'm firewalled and not as good a citizen as I could be.

I've looked at the FAQ (several times) but don't feel any closer to figuring this out. In one place it refers to ports 6881-6889, but when I checked the "can you see me thing" it was looking at 80. My client (uTorrent Web) doesn't give me an "Options" menu to check which ports it's using. Clicking on the little cogwheel on uTorrent takes me to page that'd let me change where the downloaded files go, and it mentions something about speeds, but there's no port information, and I don't see a way to find more settings.

Is downloading some utilities manager really the best way to get this done? The free one from portforward dot com, I guess?

If I open more ports (and which ones?) does that open my computer to more annoying/malicious traffic?

Thanks in advance

Re: Firewall help, please

I am also firewalled since switching to Windows 10 and uTorrent. Windows 10 did not like BitTorrent which was what I had been using an was not firewalled. So far I have not been able to fix it.

In uTorrent on the upper left click on options, then preferences then you will see port info. You can then enter the port number your computer is using in the field where you saw 80 and check that port.

Any help for both of us would be appreciated.

Re: Firewall help, please

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone!

I don't want to be dense, but there is no "options" in the upper left of the uTorrent Web screen I'm looking at. There's the little "uTorrent Web" logo (which is is not clickable) and there's a magnifying glass ("search torrents") and that's it.

On the right side there's a little wheel, but as I mentioned above, it does nothing.

Have I downloaded some bizarre "light" version of this thing by mistake?

Utor.PNG

This is the top of my screen. What version of uTorrent are you running ? It appears the gear gets you to the same place.

Re: Firewall help, please

I had download something called "uTorrent Web" from the uTorrent website rather than the "classic uTorrent."

I have now gone back and downloaded the classic, which does all the options your screenshot shows.

Of course, now I don't know how to get the shows I downloaded in the first thing to appear in the second thing, but I've yet to really play with it.

Re: Firewall help, please

I would guess you have them downloaded to something like downloads, Find the files and reopen them one at a time.

Re: Firewall help, please

I run Win7 and utorrent 2.2.1. When I get firewalled I have to reboot my computer about 5 times before the firewall goes away. Been doing that for years . . .

Re: Firewall help, please

1st make sure that your torrent client is allowed trough any firewall you have running in Norton or any other security software. Shut everything down including router. Wait a minute or so, restart router. When router is fully going again then restart PC and see what happens. Hope it helps !

Re: Firewall help, please

Whatever I do, I can't upload anything because nobody wants anything. My firewall is spinning around, it's to puke. Only with a new torrent I manage to upload something.
Therefore I would like to apologize for my bad ratio.
