Re: converting mp3 to flac

You won't get better sound. When you compress a file to mp3, it becomes 'lossy' because they take away a lot of the information in the file in order for it to become smaller. There is no way for you to somehow 'add' all that information back and make it lossless or even sound better in any way.

Just so you hear it from someone else, there is no reason to ever, ever do what you are proposing.

Re: converting mp3 to flac

The only thing it would do is bloat the size of the file.

No, as said above, it would just make the file size larger. It's the same sound, only in a bigger file. It's like taking your sentence and changing it to:
Code:
wouldn't that just make the flaws more noticable.
Nothing added, whatsoever, just bigger.

Re: converting mp3 to flac

To burn them to an audio cd, you would want to convert them to wav, not flac. I don't know PCs, so I can't recommend something to use, but there are a ton of converters out there that should do that. As for the gaps, you will always get that with mp3s. You would have to use some sort of software to look at the wav file and delete the little bit of space that is left at the end (beginning also?) of the track. Just remember to never, ever trade that audio cd!!! Also, if you then take one of those wav files and convert it back to mp3, you will be losing even more data - that second mp3 will sound worse than the first original one.

Re: converting mp3 to flac

try audacity (audacity.sourceforge.net), convert to wav & join all tracks, remove the gaps manually (and carefully, checking in spectral view) then re-cut the show & save as temp wav files for temporary use to create your audio cdr. be sure to cut on the sector boundaries or you will get the gaps again when you burn (and don't trade this ).

not really worth the effort imo, its a crap mp3 set just listen to it on your iPod and look for the lossless version if you can find it.
