Converting Video>Apple Itunes?

I just purchased Apple TV and I am bummed that I (so far) cannot play any of my many Videos from this site (using MAC>Apple TV) through that system.

Any suggestions on programs/converting software to be compatible in itunes?

any help/direction would be appreciated.

the opposite of Apple TV = WD TV HD Media Player ($100)

this device will play everything except Apple protected media

Read carefully: Taylor wrote that he cannot play video downloaded from TTD.

I can't help cuz I don't know Mac but it would be strange if a standard DVD cannot be played. Is is for VOD only? PAL issue or you tried to play my HD uploads (MKV)?

um, taylor owns an Apple TV unit..not a WD TV HD unit. that is the problem. that device is for Apple itunes audio & Apple protected movies

Other iTunes videos: Unlike many digital media adapters, the Apple TV can't stream many common video file formats--including DivX, Xvid, AVI, WMV, and MPEG--directly from the hard drive. These files must first be manually converted and imported into the iTunes software. (There are a variety of ways to convert third-party videos, but ones that users have already optimized for the iPod or iPhone will note that the video quality will suffer when it's blown up for the big screen.) In addition to imported videos, the Apple TV can also stream computer-based videos that have been purchased or rented from the iTunes Store.
imo, its the wrong product for the task.

Re: Converting Video>Apple Itunes?

I looked into this but one would have to convert all yer vids and lose fidelity so it is not workable idea... I was looking into putting the vid equivalent of rockbox but no one can tell me if I can get past iTunes. the guy at the local apple store looked sickened by the idea. Or maybe it was just talking to me...
Just burn DVDs....

Re: Converting Video>Apple Itunes?

Thanks for all the suggestions...was hoping that there would an easy fix, but alas will have to burn and pop into DVD player.

AAR.oner - Thanks and I will look into handbrake

pawel - when I drag and drop into itunes any of my (TTD) video files (no mater what the extention is) it is not recognized. Not a big deal as the Apple TV was not initially intended for my personal video habits..heh

Any other sggestions would be appreciated!

Re: Converting Video>Apple Itunes?

What you really need is a Boxee invite. I have no experience of the process but the links at the bottom of the top article here look like a goodish place to start or maybe this thread on Macrumors.

Re: Converting Video>Apple Itunes?

FYI - I had good luck using APPLEMACSOFT Video Converter

Worked like a charm....from my eyes no major loss of quality (although I am sure there was), but worth it IMO.

Thanks for the help TTD.
