Should spoken word videos require LPCM?

My dvds are primarily documentaries. Is the experience diminished because they are AC3 and not LPCM? I'm torn on this issue. Also, some of my very old tapes were recorded off television prior to Hi-Fi recorders. Should they be dis-allowed even if they represent crucial historical significance?
I have never had a complaint...ever - well

Re: Should spoken word videos require LPCM?

Not necessarily, but you do upload more than interviews, right?

You can't fix them without re-encoding them (which is even worse than a standalone transfer) because the VBR is above 9000kbs

Wrong. Import video and new audio into editor like Vegas. Match new audio to old source. Output new audio track. Use authoring program that doesn't re-encode video to import video and replace old audio with new one.

Re: Should spoken word videos require LPCM?

Wrong

Max bitrate for overall DVD = 10080 kbs
LPCM audio = 1500 kbs
Max video bit rate w/ LPCM audio = 8500 kbs (Standard rendering 8200-8400 kbs Per hour of footage)

Anything exceeding 8500 kbs w/ LPCM = NON-Compliant DVD

Standalones transferred at 9000 kbs+ can NOT have LPCM audio without Re-encoding the video.

Re: Should spoken word videos require LPCM?

You still could do it with AC3.

Except, that isn't what the OP's question was about. He knows he can do it with AC3, because that is what he normally does.

If you've got the lossless audio, use it

If the video was recorded as AC3 or is AC3 being the best source available, whatever.
