High Definition Video BitTorrent Seeding Policy

High Definition Video BitTorrent Seeding Policy :

Permitted file formats:
High Definition Transport Stream (.ts)
Blu-ray (BR)

Not permitted file formats :
Containers like HD DivX, .EVO, MP4, .TP, and Toshiba HD structured videos are not permitted on this site

Above doesn't mention the Matroska container .mkv, which is neither permitted nor does it appear under "not permitted".
While I don't have issues with .ts in general, Matroska offers an additional benefit, the possibility to set chapters.

Trust the question is obvious.

BTW, your old buddy Pawel just managed to upload a HD - Video in Matroska format at Dime :

Question Re: High Definition Video BitTorrent Seeding Policy

Good question and while we are talking about this, what about HD sourced DVD's? In the High Definition Video BitTorrent Seeding Policy it states:

4. No Transcoded or Re-Encoded high definition videos are allowed.
We do not allow any high definition video to be seeded that have been recompressed in any way. This includes any:
...
Blu-ray / high definition .ts > DVD.

but I have seen some of these HD sourced DVD's here at TTD (like this one for example). So my question is, do we need to ask for permission for each upload?

unless i'm mistaken that wasn't transcoded or re-encoded like you're thinking. it looks like somebody took the raw file from dime and made a dvd from the raw file. which is perfectly okay. it wouldn't be okay if someone took a blu-ray of it and then transcoded/re-encoded it to dvd.

Re: High Definition Video BitTorrent Seeding Policy

The only reason it isn't listed in the faq was at the time it was written 3 years ago, there were no players that played mkv's and streaming was still not prevelant. Not sure if there are players that play them or not and don't really care....if someone can't stream files, that's a personal problem that we're also not concerned with.

They ARE allowed....I'll ask Lynne to update the faq.

Well that's good to know. I've been uploading some of these dvd's at other sites 'cause I always thought they weren't allowed here.

Re: High Definition Video BitTorrent Seeding Policy

Many thanks for your consideration & fast reaction
Please allow me to mention a minor point :

""Note: Audio in MP2 format is permitted for Transport Stream only (a case for some European HD TV channels)""

Living in Europe would be very helpful to allow mp2 also for Matroska container, as we have some cases where a second language is always in mp2

Thank You
