I had not bad burns since I used some Samsung media crap. I think that happened this year or last year (bad memory).

oops. nope. you're right. 74min CD's only back then.

but my point is, maybe if you have burn issues its not the discs..its that cheapo burner you purchased.

in the mid-90's the issue was the system/bus speed/hard drive throughput.
80Mhz systems with SCSI drives would often fail on the $5 blank CD & $400 2x SCSI burner.

I wish people who have burn issues would post what drive they are using.
my guess is they own a $30 burner quickly built in china. my advice is get the $100 burner

Why should we get an 100 dollars burner? To see it next month at half price?

Most burners today are in the $30-50 range.

Paid $200 for my first crappy LG. Never buy that brand again.

What's the scoop on Plextors? Are they worth the extra bucks?

I've never had a single problem with my Plextor. Don't know if others would call them worth the extra money, but I like knowing that it's not gonna be the weak link in my setup.

I payed 100$+ (don't remember the excance rates) for an LG and next month it was 30-40$.

About Plextor: many will say yes, and others will say no.

In my opinion the most problems are caused by bad media not by the burner.

I have to agree with that.

Re: Tayio Yuden + or -?????

Burners are incredibly cheap, especially if you buy OEM models from Newegg.com and the like (around $20 or so). I get about a year on a typical OEM burner, then errors start to show up and I buy another. My first CD burner was a Plextor (SCSI, because it mattered back then), the last Plextor I bought (about three years ago) lasted a year and I decided at that point that I wasn't going to pay a premium for a drive that lasts a year. Of course, I burn a lot of discs , so YMMV.

Buy good media, pay attention to the quality of your burns. If you start seeing a problem then figure it's time to spend another $25 on a burner.
