Re: Sony Bravia HDMI audio sync

hard to beat the features on this model

grabbed this one last summer - 192/24 Burr Brown DAC / native flac playback / network streaming & all that fun stuff. (got it on sale for $699 - a no brainer)

Re: Sony Bravia HDMI audio sync

Even though your receiver isn't HDMI compatible, if it does 5.1 you can still run digital cables...it won't support DTS-HD / Dolby TrueHD, however it will support DTS and dolby digital.

A little secret that is not very common is that you can use a standard RCA cable instead of paying for "digital coax" (they're the same thing). If you do not have a digital coax out from your TV, then use an optical cable. Either way, you'll be doing yourself a favor.

Re: Sony Bravia HDMI audio sync

Another thing that bugs me is CEC (Consumer Electronic Control), or the ability to control other devices over HDMI...I found that I was having to turn things on and off in certain order or powering off a device and other things would turn off, and then I would have to turn it back on...Pain in the ass.

ex. Playing Pandora through the stereo and not wanting the TV on. If I turned the TV off, the bluray turned off effectively ending pandora. CEC is called many things on different devices (braviasync would be what it's called on your Sony devices).

That sounds pretty lazy...you'll consider rearranging all of the speakers in your house, but moving a cable that is already plugged in and being used to another spot...too much work.

You are taking audio that is digital and converting it to analog with a D/A converter in your TV (not good)...Keep it digital. No conversion necessary.

Re: Sony Bravia HDMI audio sync

we had a two button one of those zenith deals.
The TV is not older (as the thread title says ....duh) but my stereo IN THAT ROOM is..this is by choice since I love the way it sounds.
Uni, I am not just being lazy although I am damn good at that too. Again, after trying all the other routes for audio signal I found the only one that provides correct sync for watching live music with the gear I have set up in that room. I have other nicer and other lamer set ups too so never you worry I have a modicum of happiness .

hey wanna watch a concert on my 7 inch portable dvd player with the micro speaker? the screen goes black now and then since my kids have dropped the player a few times but ......

You went around your elbow to get to your ass...You had to convert the pure digital audio to analog, by doing so, you created your sync problem, and then you had to use a function buried deep in a menu somewhere to add artificial delays in order to sync the audio and video back up. Keeping everything digital in the first place would have saved you a ton of headache, and given you more flexibility with your audio choices.

But as long as it works, that is the main thing. Seriously though, look into upgrading to an amp with HDMI built in (at least for your main viewing room). There are always receivers on craigslist for cheap...not to mention the prices are coming down like crazy. You can get great quality with all the bells and whistles for less than $700 all day long.

Re: Sony Bravia HDMI audio sync

thanks Prof. Smart....unfortunate that you have opined so much whilst not reading the start of the thread. Is this why others get bugged with you??? or perhaps this is light trolling? Available methods of keeping digi with this gear FAILED thus I moved to this workable fix...not perfect but better than anything I tried and I tried all the wiring plans I could think of and find... what say we give it a rest, huh? be well.

That is very annoying. With mine you can turn it off. It's called Anynet+ on Samsung stuff in the menus.
