uTorrent vs. bittorrent??

I just DL uTorrent after the recent bug in the Bittorrent. I used the "official bittorrent client" and have switched to utorrent. They look the same. Are they? This is the "new" one w/o the bug right?

Re: uTorrent vs. bittorrent??

The new one has the bug. The old bittorrent didn't look like utorrent. they started to look like each other when bittorrent bought utorrent and became utorrent.

these are the ones without the bug

utorrent
1.6.0 (474) fine (but vulnerable to exploit1)
1.6.1 (488) fine
1.6.1 (489) fine
1.6.1 (490) fine
1.7.0 (3353) bugged
1.7.1 (3360) bugged
1.7.2 (3458) bugged
1.7.3 (4470) bugged
1.7.4 (4482) bugged
1.7.5 (4602) bugged

This probably isn't the right thread to say this, but thanks for all your hard work keeping us up to date and secure. I (and most likely others) would not have known about the recent uTorrent probs without having seen it here.

I have not had any problems with Utorrent1.6.0 (474), but it appears that it is possible to exploit. What would the result be of an exploit? Would I know? Is that catastrophic or does it mean something else?

Can I now upgrade to 1.6.1 (488)? Any idea where I could locate that version?

Like many others, I would prefer to avoid the current Utorrent versions. But, I don't want to be stupid (even though it works out that way, sometimes). Thanks!

Re: uTorrent vs. bittorrent??

the exploit that 1.60 is vulnerable to is similar to the one that the 1.74, etc. is also vulnerable too. The newest versions of utorrent are not vulnerable (The links above.). If you want an older version go here.
