Re: Lack of tags on live shows, any reason why?

I kinda like having tags, since alot of my stuff use them, I really like being able to tag the artwork to the songs....

as for archive.org letting people download mp3's, who cares as long as the lossless is truly archived for for future, that's the point isn't it.

the format's not important, music and the love of music is what's important.

Re: Lack of tags on live shows, any reason why?

I'm wondering how many shows go unseeded because old farts like me don't know, or really desire to learn, anything about tags and don't want their uploads to be unappreciated. I don't even print "artwork" much less care if they're embedded in the tags (or even if I got it right that they can be embedded in the tags). I don't even know, or care, which files I've downloaded have tags, or how they're used. Believe it or not, I don't feel as though I'm missing anything (guess you have to lose something to miss it). All that said, if somebody can post a link to a tutorial showing how to properly tag flac files please do.

Tags are a bonus, it's handy to have them if you're using your computer to play flac files. Easytag is a good file tagger for linux.

Mp3Tag works quite well also. It's not just for Mp3 so do not be confused by the name. I also use Foobar 2000 mostly for adding replay-gain tags to keep from volume spikes due to recording levels.

Thanks for the tip. I gave it a try and see that several of the shows I've leeched have been tagged, although vlc seems to be the only player I have that shows the artwork. I tried tagging the flac files of a show I taped and can see how it would be helpful if I wanted to know the name of the song being played, or if I wanted to play a certain song and didn't know what track number it was. I'm still not interested in using it for myself since I prefer mplayer for home and convert to apple lossless for iPhone for when I'm on a bike or bus, or at work, but at least now I have an idea what tags are useful for.

I like mp3tag. Tag&Rename is good, too.

I prefer to see all uploads tagged properly, but I can't see us ever even considering making it a requirement.

Tags are very useful, especially for people who use their files over a streaming audio system.

People should not however worry about uploading shows without tags. Most shows I have downloaded over the last years do not have them. Those that do are almost always edited in some manner or the other.

I add tags because my Squeezebox system would not function without them. It is not that hard a process to add them. And 'old farts' such as I can learn to do it if they have the desire.

For artwork embedded as a tag, exaile does, and I *think* aqualung does as well.

MpeTag will also embed artwork through the extended tags function.
