DVD Authoring problem

Wonder if anyone can help with this.

I am trying to author a DVD, the entire DVD plays fine on the PC and stand alone, when I import it to the DVD author only half shows on the timeline and I cannot add all the chapters.

Any ideas?

Re: DVD Authoring problem

Is it a commercial DVD or a homemade one?

Also, what happens when you copy/paste the video_ts folder onto the HDD and then try importing it?

And what DVD author program you refer to?

I DID copy and paste the video folder and imported it into Tsunami and TMPGEnc DVD Author 3.

In both cases only half the show appears on the timeline, 26 mns out of 54.

I have been able to add 10 chapters of the 16

The whole show plays fine on the PC and SA, I guess it was recorded that way?

One half ends and then the second half begins, I am wondering if anyone knows how to fix this so I can author the entire 54 minute show.

Are you authoring, or re-authoring a disc someone else created?

It's a stand alone disc. Not authored. I tried to add menus and chapters, but only half the show, 26 mns, show on the authoring program's timeline. So I can only add 10 of the 16 chapters.

The show is 56 mns, but the DVD only has two VOB files, usually a DVD that long has 4 VOB files.

All 56 mns play on a DVD player, I just can't find the second half on the timeline.

The latter. I wonder if demuxing would work. Will give it a try, it should work I think.

I just can't figure out how the damn DVD was recorded this way.

I always import VOB files, or the TS-VIDEO folder into the authoring program, and the entire show shows on the timeline, except in this case.

Re: DVD Authoring problem

Posted too soon.

Still can't get the whole show to show on the timeline.

Now, the two streams only show as 28 mns out of 54

Any ideas?

Re: DVD Authoring problem

Solved it...ripped it to one VOB file with Decrypter and demuxed with Womble.

When I ripped it to elementary streams with Decrypter it didn't work.

Still can't figure out why this shit happened.

Re: DVD Authoring problem

You are only allowed to edit title 1 when you click edit on title 1 and the same for gruppo. Usually I will edit both sections of the dvd I want to make, record it to my HD and then edit the chapters on the dvd recorded to my HD. Your stand alone version is split into two different recording sessions, so you have to merge them into one to edit it correctly.

Nope, those are actually two full versions of the same project showing on the timeline. In both instances, only half the show showed on the timeline.

The DVD is 54 mns long, but contains only 2 VOB files. Usually a DVD of that length contains four.

I ripped the DVD to a single VOB file with Decrypter, demuxed it with Womble, and authored the DVD.

The demuxed video plays fine, the demuxed audio plays fine, both video and audio play fine in the authoring program when I click on the simulation button. I then rendered the DVD, and guess what, there is no audio for the second half of the show.

I am at a total and complete loss.

Re: DVD Authoring problem

From your screen cap of TMPGEnc, it shows that your files are:
Title 1 - 26 minutes 40 seconds and Gruppo - 27 minutes 56 seconds.
This shows that they are not two full versions of the same project. Either you copied the files unto your HD wrong, or you set either the start frame or end frame.
You should start again and transfer your files to the HD using your burning software (burn to file), or DVDClone. Open in TMPGEnc and make sure that it shows the correct time for the video, then edit your chapters and make your menus. I have added menus and chapters to over 50 DVDs this way and never had a problem with TMPGEnc. You may want to make sure you are importing the Video_TS folder instead of individual VOB files, as this will also cause the DVD to edited in sections. Even with the two files you should be able to edit each half and still make a menu that contains the information from both. Make sure that when you are in Create Menu that you edit menu theme and set the layout of the track menu to 24 tracks, (my copy of TMPGEnc allows up to 15 tracks then 24 tracks) you should then have all 16 tracks shown on Track #1 menu. Select your background image (use a MPEG2 file if you want to have a piece of the video play in the background, or use a picture if you want a stationary photo for your Chapter Menus - Also the same process for making your Main menu play a piece of the video - make sure to check additional pictures for backgrounds etc in the menu display settings, motion menu and set the length of the motion menu to your specified length) Name your chapters and create DVD folder in the output settings. It is best to create a new DVD Folder on your HD after you edit your chapters and burn your disc using those files instead of trying to create the new files directly onto the DVD. Hope this clears things up a bit for you, if not I'll be watching for a response.

Re: DVD Authoring problem

I solved it. This was one messed up DVD. It was recorded that way I guess.

I took the demuxed video and audio I had made from a single VOB file ripped with Decrypter, imported them into Tsunami DVD author and rendered them to DVD without a menu. In the previous attempt I had made menus and chapters, and then rendered to DVD.

I then burned the DVD to a DVD-RW to see if the second half of the audio played, and, believe it or not, it did. I then imported the new VIDEO_TS folder into TMPGEnc and authored it, then burned the rendered DVD to a DVD-RW to make sure all worked, and all did.

I suspect the original DVD was recorded in two half hour segments. I had downloaded a movie like that, in ISO format, when I put into to the player only 60 mns showed, even though it was a 2 hour movie. Then, when the first 60 mns played, the other 60 showed up.

WEIRD...
