Question EQing - anyone who learned it - knows exactly what to do?

Hi,
I'm very picky in the sound quality and the only thing I can do is to 'play' with the equalizer, but this is too subjectively. In case someone here knows how to do it correctly and want to improve the quality of some shows pls let me know.

I taped the Deftones (90+ min.),
Soulfly (unfortunately incompl.)
and Ministry (90+ min.) so far.

OKM IIr > A3 > Sony MZ-RH1 (PCM mode) > HiMD(M)

By request I can post some sound samples,
cheers
OLLi

Re: EQing - anyone who learned it - knows exactly what to do?

I think it all depends on what sounds good to your ears. I'm not sure if there is a specific guide to EQing to a master spec. Some people prefer to have the "raw" tape available without any EQing, but that may be due to the fact there are some pretty bad EQ jobs out there.

Don't know if this helped you or not.

in general... I'd say to not eq too much, and use a good eq. I dont use a bass rolloff system when i tape, so i usually cut a little low end out and slightly boost the mids, but not too much as they can become somewhat muddy.

yes, use as little as you possibly can is the rule with all fx

and if you're not absolutely positive that what you've done is a significant improvement then leave it as is.
