NAS recommendations

Hi again,

Anyone have any recommendations for a NAS?

I am currently thinking about getting this one:

http://www.richersounds.com/product/...ok-world-2-2tb

I have a Western Digital 500 GB external drive at the moment, but need more space.
I also like the idea of the mirrored RAID backup- thinking that it would be a disaster if a drive failed and I lost my entire digital collection, given that I am now stopping using cd-rs (not good for backup anyway, given they are a temporary medium) as I have a Squeezebox for playback, and hence need to double backup everything. The mirrored drive would enable a backup copy without having to use 2 drives and copy manually.

Any thoughts/recommendations?

Thanks again.

Re: NAS recommendations

I use a dlink DNS-323 with 4TB in a mirrored raid. The write speed kinda sucks, but the read speed is good enough for mkv or flac. Obviously I use it for movies and music.

Re: NAS recommendations

I'm looking at various options here too - you may want to browse at www.ripcaster.co.uk as well, some interesting kit there.

One thing that has emerged is that unless you tag your FLAC files, you're likely to find a lack of organisation when you come to access them via Squeezebox.....

I've yet to determine if, having downloaded a set of files from here, I tag them all the way I want them, whether or not that precludes me from seeding them; do the tags materially alter the torrent fileset? If so, then maybe a tagged copy is required, leaving the originals unaltered.

I don't add tags at all. No problem in accessing via Squeezebox- you just navigate to the folder you specify as the music folder on your external drive, and the sets are displayed alphabetically in the subfolders.

oh- and thanks for the ripcaster link- new to me- I'll take a look.

That looks good, but probably over my current budget.
Thanks for the comment though. Appreciated.
