Hacking an older 60 gb zen hard disk jukebox.

I can get a 60 gb zen hard disk jukebox cheap. There is no line in, but it does have the ability to record .wav via built in (mono/cheap/voice) mic. Can this unit be modified to accept a better mic or hacked to accept a USB audio interface or USB microphone?

I am not afraid to open it up and tinker with the insides. If I render it inoperable, it is no big loss because I can get it cheap.
